Andy Quilty - one of my favorite current artist from Australia

Andy Quiltys’ work explores ideas surrounding the social, psychological and physical landscape inhabited by the suburban Australian male. Drawing upon personal experience, Quiltys’ practice references his working past as a surfboard artist and labourer in the surfboard manufacture industry.

Quilty’s work has received several accolades including The Mandjar Art Award, Cossack Art Award (Portraiture Category), City of South Perth Emerging Artist Award, Kalgoorlie Boulder Art Prize and the Bunbury Biennale Acquisition award. He was also the recipient of the ‘People’s Choice Prize’ at the 2012 Joondalup Invitation Art Award and the 2013 Midwest Art Prize. Quilty has been a finalist in a number of significant national and international art prizes including The Black Swan Prize For Portraiture, Adelaide Perry Drawing Prize, Midwest Art Prize, Albany Art Prize, Joondalup Invitation Art Award and the Aesthetica Art Award. In 2013 he was selected for inclusion in the 2013 Salon des Refusés in Sydney and the Kedumba Drawing Prize – widely regarded as the premier event for drawing in Australia.

Since 2012 Quilty has held 3 solo shows and completed studio residencies at 140 Perth and the Cossack historic settlement in Northwest Australia. His work is held in a number of state collections.
Quilty has a Bachelor of Fine Art from Curtin University and a Diploma in Graphic Design.
